감정 호르몬의 화학적 파동을 회화 언어로 탐구해온 작가 세연(이찌고) SE-YEON [ICHIGO]가 서울 코엑스(COEX)에서 열린 ‘2026 월드아트페스타(World ARTFESTA)’에서 생애 첫 판화 출품작을 전량 판매하며 작업 세계의 확장 가능성을 입증했다.

이번 성과는 2026년 1월 LA Art Show를 통해 해외 무대에 첫 발을 내디딘 이후 이어진 결과로, 회화 중심의 작업을 판화라는 매체로 정교하게 번역해냈다는 점에서 주목을 받았다.

■ 판화로 확장된 감정의 회화적 실험
이번 전시에서 세연(이찌고)은 대표 연작과 캐릭터 ‘Nemoji’를 기반으로 한 리미티드 에디션 판화를 선보였다. 작품은 감정을 서사적으로 설명하기보다,기쁨·몰입·고양 상태가 생성되고 사라지는 미세한 파동의 과정을 중첩된 색채와 리듬감 있는 화면 구성으로 시각화한다. 겹쳐진 색의 밀도와 여백은 감정이 고정된 결과물이 아니라 끊임없이 이동하는 상태임을 암시하며,이러한 조형적 언어는 전시 기간 동안 컬렉터와 미술 관계자들의 관심을 끌었다.
출품된 판화 작품은 행사 기간 중 모두 판매되었다.
현장에서는 “원화가 지닌 정동의 밀도를 훼손하지 않으면서 판화 매체로 안정적으로 번역한 사례”라는 평가가 이어졌다.

세연(이찌고)의 작업은 특정 감정이나 단일 호르몬에 머물지 않는다. 작가는 신체 내부에서 발생하는 화학적 진동 전체를 하나의 흐름으로 인식하고,이를 상태·변화·밀도의 차이로 감각화해왔다. 이러한 접근은 감정을 상징이나 서사로 재현하는 방식에서 벗어나, 동시대 회화가 감각과 인식을 다루는 새로운 가능성을 제시한다는 평가를 받는다.
작가는 2024년 오스트리아 빈 ‘Gustav Klimt Awards’ 본상 수상을 포함해 해외 어워즈를 다수 수상하며 국내외 전시와 아트페어를 통해 활동 영역을 확장 중이다.

Artist SE-YEON [ICHIGO], known for exploring the chemical waves of emotional hormones through the language of painting, has proven the expanded potential of her artistic world at the ‘2026 World ARTFESTA’ held at COEX, Seoul. Every piece of her first-ever print collection submitted to the fair was sold out.
This achievement follows her successful international debut at the LA Art Show in January 2026. It is particularly noteworthy for how she meticulously translated her painting-centered practice into the medium of printmaking.
■ An Artistic Experiment of Emotion Expanded Through Prints
At this exhibition, SE-YEON [ICHIGO] showcased limited-edition prints based on her representative series and her signature character, ‘Nemoji’.
Rather than narrating emotions through storytelling, her works visualize the subtle waves of joy, immersion, and elation—capturing the moments they emerge and dissipate. Through layered colors and rhythmic compositions, she suggests that emotion is not a fixed result but a constantly shifting state.
All prints submitted to the event were sold out during the exhibition period. On-site, the collection received high praise: "A prime example of stably translating the emotional density of original paintings into the print medium without losing its essence."
■ A Contemporary Language for Emotional Hormones
SE-YEON’s work does not dwell on a single emotion or hormone. She perceives the entire chemical vibration occurring within the human body as a single flow, sensing it through differences in state, change, and density.
This approach departs from traditional methods of representing emotion via symbols or narratives, offering new possibilities for how contemporary painting handles sensation and perception. The artist continues to expand her reach through domestic and international exhibitions, including winning a main prize at the 2024 Gustav Klimt Awards in Vienna, Austria.

"Through the medium of print, I was able to share the fine textures of emotional hormones more closely with the audience. I want to continue my work of slowly recording invisible states of being."
